geographic isolation
the separation of a population into two groups by a physical barrier, preventing interbreeding and allowing different selection pressures to act on each group
warning colouration
bright colouration in toxic or dangerous animals that signals to predators that the animal is harmful, reducing the chance of attack
allele frequency
the proportion of a particular allele within a population, which can change over generations as natural selection favours certain variants over others
speciation
the formation of a new species when two populations become so different that they can no longer interbreed to produce fertile offspring
selection pressure
an environmental factor that affects which individuals survive and reproduce, driving changes in allele frequency in a population over generations
