halogen

any of the elements found in Group 7 of the periodic table

diatomic

a molecule consisting of two atoms, such as hydrogen (H₂), oxygen (O₂), nitrogen (N₂), and the halogens (e.g., Cl₂, Br₂)

halide

a compound formed when a halogen reacts with another element, often a metal, halides contain halide ions (e.g., Cl⁻, Br⁻, I⁻)

non-metal

a type of element that lacks the properties of metals; they are typically poor conductors of heat and electricity, have lower densities, and are not malleable or ductile

volatility

a measure of how readily a substance evaporates; a volatile substance has a high tendency to turn into vapour at a given temperature and pressure
