A radioactive form of an element that decays and emits radiation.
half-life
The time it takes for half of the radioactive atoms in a substance to decay.
radiotherapy
A cancer treatment that uses high doses of radiation, typically gamma rays, to target and destroy cancer cells while minimising damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
radioactive tracer
A small amount of radioactive substance used in medical imaging to follow the movement of substances within the body.
gamma camera
A device used in medical imaging to detect gamma radiation emitted by a radioactive tracer inside the body.
