Unit Summary

In this unit, children explore the lives of famous explorers and discover what it means to be curious about the world. They learn about Ernest Shackleton’s journey to Antarctica, Neil Armstrong’s Moon landing, Jane Goodall’s study of chimpanzees, Ibn Battuta’s travels across the desert, and Amelia Earhart’s pioneering flights.

Throughout the unit, children identify key features of different environments, compare exploration in the past and present, and learn why these explorers are remembered today. Using stories, photographs, discussion and practical activities, they develop historical understanding, geographical knowledge, and a rich vocabulary linked to exploration and discovery.
